Inside the Biscuit
The Creation Process
Our dog biscuits are organic and are made from natural, proven formulas which saves you tons of time either shopping for the right bakery, finding a good biscuit recipe or trying to make your own biscuits. We bake our dog biscuits daily so they are fresh when they arrive at your door.
In order to create a high quality treat, it requires several careful steps, each one as important as the other. Like links in a chain, the final biscuit, confection or treat is only as good as the weakest link, and we do our best to avoid any weak links and adhere to the strict ISO9001 and preparation protocols. We bake as if these treats were for us to eat.
Step 1. We research and select our ingredients carefully. We want the freshest ingredients possible, so we look for a vendor with a good turn around of products, not a vendor whose products sit on a shelf for months. We look for organic ingredients that are milled, produced and packaged with the same sort of care we take in baking. We try and support as many local farmers as possible to reduce transportation emissions. The more you buy locally, the better it is for the environment.
Step 2. Once again, we plan our work space, just as if we were making treats for people. Everything must be sparkling clean and spotless. We take careful steps to make sure there is no cross over of ingredients from a previous batch. Each batch is treated with great care, after all, we are baking for our best friends.
Step 3. We plan and test the recipe, measuring how much is just right of each ingredient. For our crew of canine taster's, this is a much enjoyed step! For new formulas we must tweak it, trying various amounts of ingredients to get it just the way we and they like it.
Step 4. Now that our group of tasters have decided what we should bake, we decide how - what temperature, and for how long. Those two must blend perfectly, otherwise you have a mushy burnt glob, not at all acceptable to us, or our friends.
Step 5. Well, now that we've got the recipe and the baking down, we bake up a batch and sample again, a real party for all our dog friends. And most importantly, we bag some in a variety of bags and boxes, date them, and place them in various environments; the house, the car, the garage, etc. This is to test the shelf life.
Step 6. We choose our packaging and labeling, (after many long hours of design and research) and now we are ready and eager to share our newest offering with our customers.
Biscuit FAQs
Q:Why don't you sell to the public?
A: We support our retailers and buyers 100%. We love all of our customers, big or small, but our existing retailers would lose confidence if we continued to sell to the public. We have published a "where to buy" directory.
Q:Are your dog biscuits 100% Organic?
A: We are predominately organic. We are organic, all human grade and human consumable. Only five ingredients are not organic. We use human consumable quality Parmesan cheese, purchased in small batches to maximize freshness, and human grade parsley. We also use human grade carob. It is very hard to obtain organic carob on a steady basis. Our honey is human grade and raw, and our peanuts are human grade, dry roasted and unsalted.
Q: Will my dog eat your treats?
A: We have tested our treats and biscuits on dogs who do not like treats, dogs who were addicted to a particular treat, healthy dogs, sick dogs, and all of our own dogs. Out of the hundreds of dogs we have tested, we have been told of 2 that did not eat them. We have even been paid the extreme compliment that very ill dogs who would eat nothing, eagerly ate our treats, with complete veterinary approval.
Q: Do your treats contain meat?
A: No way. They are vegetarian. We do use Parmesan cheese in one, and they all have an organic egg glaze, so they are not vegan, but they are very veggie.
Q:How many biscuits can my dog have a day?
A: Totally between you and your dog. They are a treat, not a mainstay diet, so make sure they also eat a healthy wholesome diet. You might want to check out our Happy Dog Food. A great match for our dog treats.
Q:Are your treats and biscuits low fat?
A: Yes, all the way. We do not use oils or fats.
Q: Are your treats low in salt?
A: Yes, we do not add salt to any of our products!
Q:Can you send me samples of your dog biscuits?
A:We have a special biscuit sampler package which is free, but the customer is responsible for all shipping charges. Contact us for a sample pack.
Q: How big are your treats?
A: Our bulk biscuits and pre-packaged biscuits average about 2", by about 3/16". Our Canine Confections are 1" by 1/2", and our petite dog treats vary around 1/2" by 1/8".
Q: How long do they last?
A: Usually only a few minutes - hehe, but you can store them up to 1 year in a cool, dry place.
Q: Can people eat them?
A: Well, that's not very fair to the dogs. We do have customers who like their crunchiness, and we sample every batch ourselves, however, we do bake for the dogs, not us humans, so we would like them to get their share.
Q: Is one flavor more popular than the others?
A: No. We have found that they all sell equally well. We do find that dogs like the variety and left to their own devices will rummage through all the flavors.
Q: How quickly can you ship?
A: That varies with the season. We bake fresh almost everyday. Quality is extremely important to us. Some orders, especially small ones, ship within 24 to 48 hours. Large multiple orders can take several days to prepare and ship.
Q: Can you give me your recipe so I can make my own?
A: Yes, but then we would have to make you disappear. Capisca?
Q: How many treats are in an 8oz. assorted bag?
A: Since each dog biscuit is hand-cut, they vary a bit in weight and size. Each bag contains approximately 40 plus treats (usually more).
